About “Homeland”
In Cory Doctorow's Homeland, Marcus Yallow, a former hacktivist, works as a webmaster for a politician promising reform after California's economy collapses. He receives a thumbdrive from Masha, a former enemy, containing a WikiLeaks-style leak of evidence against corrupt corporations and the government. Masha disappears, and Marcus is tasked with releasing the data. He faces pressure from friends who see him as a hero and from the need to protect his employer's election. He hesitates, unsure if leaking the archive without reviewing its contents is the right choice. Meanwhile, he is followed by people who seem dangerous. The novel explores themes of activism, courage, and the fight for a better world.
