The Gruffalo is a children's picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It follows a mouse who takes a walk in the woods and encounters various animals. The book has sold more than 13 million copies and has received awards for children's literature. It has also been adapted into stage plays and an Oscar-nominated animated film. The book was first published in 1999 in the United Kingdom by Macmillan Children's Books.
