About “Not in the flesh”

When a truffle-hunting dog digs furiously, his master expects a valuable truffle, but the dirt instead reveals the bones and tendons of a human hand. Chief Inspector Wexford must piece together events from eleven years earlier by interrogating everyone in the area, among eighty-five people who have disappeared over the past decade, and a second body soon complicates the case.
