About “Payment in blood”

At the Scottish manor house of Westerbrae, a London theatrical company gathers to hear a new play, and by evening's end its playwright has been murdered in her bed. Scotland Yard's Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers investigate under orders to keep the case from the press, with Lynley's judgment complicated by the presence of Helen Clyde, a woman he loves who occupied the room next to the victim's, apparently not alone.
