A heat wave spikes both the mercury and everyone's sex drive in Beaumont, South Carolina, where newspaper owner Jamie Swift meets millionaire playboy Max Holt and struggles to resist him despite suspecting he's all wrong for her. As the lingerie shop, bakery, and even Jamie's dog get caught up in the heat, someone starts killing off the town's more annoying citizens, with clues leading to the personals section of Jamie's newspaper.
