Two months have passed since sixty-five thousand alien objects surrounded Earth, burning up in the atmosphere. The event was brief but intense, leaving the world in silence. A space probe near Neptune detects a faint signal from the edge of the solar system, possibly from an unknown intelligence. The story follows a team sent to make contact. The team includes a linguist with multiple personalities, a biologist enhanced with technology, a pacifist warrior, a genetically revived predator, and an informational topologist. They are sent to the edge of space, trusted with the fate of the world. The mission raises questions about whether they are more alien than the intelligence they seek.
