About “Concerning the Militia”

Federalist No. 29, titled "Concerning the Militia," is a political essay written by Alexander Hamilton. It is the twenty-ninth of The Federalist Papers, a series of essays arguing for the ratification of the United States Constitution. The essay was first published in the Independent Journal on January 9, 1788, under the pseudonym Publius, which was used for all the essays. Although it was the thirty-fifth essay in the order of publication, it was placed after Federalist No. 28 when the essays were compiled, making it the last in a group of essays about the national military.
