This 1999 novel by John Vornholt features Tom Riker, an identical duplicate of the Enterprise's first officer, serving as a Starfleet medical courier when he encounters Maquis renegades led by former Starfleet officer Chakotay. A Cardassian-controlled planet in the Demilitarized Zone is stricken with a deadly disease, and only Riker can deliver the medical supplies the Maquis need, though the Cardassians would rather destroy the planet than let the epidemic spread.
