Paris has survived the Great Houses War, but the city is in ruins. Its streets are filled with haunted remnants, Notre-Dame is a burnt-out shell, and the Seine flows black with ash. Despite the destruction, life persists. The Great Houses still compete for control over the city. House Silverspires, once the dominant force, is now in chaos. Its magic is failing, its founder is missing, and a mysterious threat lurks within its walls. Three individuals— a powerful but naive Fallen, an alchemist with a destructive addiction, and a resentful young man with Far Eastern magic—must unite. Their actions could either save or destroy Silverspires.
