In 1844, the celebrated playwright Alexandre Dumas began serializing a story in the magazine Le Siècle, claiming it was based on manuscripts he found while researching a history of Louis XIV. The story follows a young man named D'Artagnan who, upon entering Paris, becomes embroiled in court intrigues, international politics, and ill-fated affairs between royal lovers.
