The 2005 novel by Andrea Camilleri is the latest mystery in the Inspector Montalbano series. The story follows the inspector as he deals with existential questions while investigating the murder of a man shot at point-blank range in the face with his pants down. Two attractive and evasive women are among the prime suspects. The case also involves cocaine, mysterious computer codes, and threatening letters, leading to complex and tense situations at the police headquarters in Vigata. The novel continues the series' tradition of dark sophistication and dry humor.
