About “Slapat Rajawan”

Slapat Rajawan Datow Smin Ron, also known as Bago Yazawin, is a Mon language chronicle that covers 17 dynasties, from legendary times to the Hanthawaddy period. It was written by an ethnic Mon monk and focuses on religious and legendary accounts, though it also includes secular history from the Sri Ksetra, Pagan, and Hanthawaddy periods. The chronicle links its kings to the Buddha and Buddhist mythology. It was translated into German by P.W. Schmidt in 1906, who published a reprint of a Mon language manuscript. Later, in 1923, R. Halliday translated it into English and published it in the Journal of the Burma Research Society. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
