About “Jinakalamali”

Jinakālamālī is a Chiang Mai chronicle that focuses on religious history and includes information on early Lan Na kings up to 1516 or 1517. It is similar to other Pali chronicles of the same period, such as the Cāmadevivaṃsa and the Mulasasana. The text was originally written in Pali by the abbot Ratanapañña Thera during the reign of King Kaew of Lan Na, and it is possible that it was composed in 1516. Later, during the literary renaissance under King Rama I, a copy of the chronicle was made in 1788 from an original Ayutthaya manuscript. The chronicle was also referenced in later Burmese texts, including the Maha Yazawin, a key chronicle of the Toungoo Dynasty. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
