About “Gavampati”

Gavampati is a Mon language chronicle that records legendary early history. The only surviving palm-leaf manuscript is dated by H.L. Shorto to around 1710, and he translated it into English in an article titled "Gavampati Tradition." However, Michael Aung-Thwin notes that some terms in the text are from the early 19th century, suggesting that parts of Gavampati may have been added during or shortly after the First Anglo-Burmese War, which took place between 1824 and 1826.
