Richard Paul Evans is an American author known for writing The Christmas Box and the Michael Vey series. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife Keri, five children, and one grandson. Evans earned a B.A. from the University of Utah in 1984. While working as an advertising executive, he wrote a Christmas story for his children. He self-published the story in 1993 as a novella titled The Christmas Box, which reached #2 on the New York Times Best Seller list the following year. In 1995, the book was released in hardcover and became the first to simultaneously top the New York Times Best Seller List for both paperback and hardcover editions. That same year, it was adapted into a television movie. Evans has written 36 nationally best-selling books, including children's titles with conservative Christian themes. Several of his works, such as Timepiece, The Locket, A Perfect Day, The Mistletoe Promise, and The Mistletoe Inn, were also adapted into television movies. In 1997, he founded Christmas Box House International, an organization that provides shelter and services for abused and neglected children. As of 2017, more than 35,000 children had been served by the organization.
