John (Patrick) Shirley is an American writer known for his work in fantasy, science fiction, and songwriting. He has written novels, short stories, TV scripts, and screenplays, publishing over 40 books and eight short-story collections. His works include a historical novel about Wyatt Earp titled Wyatt in Wichita and a non-fiction book on Gurdjieff titled Gurdjieff: An Introduction to His Life and Ideas. Shirley has also written lyrics for Blue Öyster Cult and other artists. In addition to his literary career, he has fronted his own bands and contributed to music as a performer and songwriter.
