Gordon L Rottman was an American author known for writing non-fiction military history books. He was born on February 24, 1947. Rottman joined the US Army in 1967 and volunteered for Special Forces, where he trained as a weapons specialist. He served in the 5th Special Forces Group during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970, and later held assignments in airborne infantry, long-range patrol, and intelligence. He retired after 26 years of service. After retiring, he worked as a Special Operations Forces scenario writer at the Joint Readiness Training Center for 12 years. He began writing military history books in 1984 and became a full-time author. Rottman has written 50 books for Osprey and currently lives in Texas.
