Edmund Cooper (1926-1982) was a British writer, born in Marple, near Stockport, Cheshire, and educated at Manchester Grammar School and Didsbury Training College. He left school at 15 to be a labourer, became a public servant at 16, and began training as a sailor at 19, when he also married. He later worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer; his stories began appearing in magazines in 1954.
