Nato a Parigi, Christian Jacq decide fin da giovane che la sua strada sarà l'antico Egitto. A 13 anni legge un libro sull'egittologia e ne rimane affascinato. Prima dei vent'anni scrive poemi e racconti ambientati in quel periodo. Si sposa a 17 anni e fa il viaggio di nozze in Egitto. All'università, alla Sorbona, si specializza in egittologia e ottiene il dottorato. Dall'inizio degli anni '80 alterna saggi e opere di fantasia, romanzi storici. Il successo arriva in Francia nel 1987 e nel resto del mondo circa dieci anni dopo. Questo gli permette di trasferirsi in una casa-biblioteca dove lavora a opere in più volumi. Negli ultimi anni ha ridotto le uscite dopo una stagione di intenso lavoro.
