China Miéville

China Miéville is an English fantasy fiction writer born on 6 September 1972 in Norwich. He is known for describing his work as "weird fiction," a style influenced by early 20th century pulp and horror writers. He is associated with a group of writers called New Weird, who aim to move fantasy beyond traditional genre clichés. Miéville is also involved in left-wing politics as a member of the Socialist Workers Party. He has run for the House of Commons under the Socialist Alliance and written a book on Marxism and international law. He teaches creative writing at Warwick University.
