A 2016 American young adult science fiction novel by Neal Shusterman set in a world with no hunger, disease, war, or misery, where humanity has even conquered death. Scythes are the only ones permitted to end life to control population, and teens Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe, a role neither of them wants, knowing failure could cost them their own lives.
