About “Book of the dead”
Wes has been an avid reader since childhood, drawn to books with an almost addictive passion. When his former colleague, Adrian O'Flaherty, invites him to a secret auction of rare occult books, Wes agrees. Adrian, however, has a hidden motive: he seeks revenge for the murder of his father, a librarian who was killed when Rutherford Circe stole rare books from the Watchers Council. At the auction, Wes purchases a box of old books that includes the Red Compendium, a famous magical text known for consuming its readers. Wes becomes deeply engrossed in the book, unable to stop reading. This 2004 novel by Ashley McConnell explores themes of obsession, mystery, and the power of forbidden knowledge.
