The story was originally serialized in the United States in Argosy in 1932 and in the United Kingdom in The Passing Show in 1933. The events take place on a fictional version of Venus called "Amtor" by its inhabitants. The novel blends elements of science fiction and fantasy, set in an imagined world on the planet.
