About “Gulliver's Travels”

"Gulliver’s Travels" by Jonathan Swift, first published in 1726, is a parody of traveler’s tales and a satire of human nature. The story follows Lemuel Gulliver, a man who loves to travel. In his first journey, he is imprisoned by the Lilliputians, a race of tiny people, after being washed ashore following a shipwreck. In his second journey, he is left on the land of giants, Brobdingnag, where he is put on display. In his third journey, he is rescued by the flying island of Laputa, a place focused on music and mathematics, and later visits several surrounding lands. In his final journey, he is abandoned by his crew and ends up in the Country of the Houyhnhnms. Through Gulliver’s experiences, Swift comments on the political and cultural issues of his time. This edition includes illustrations by Milo Winter and an introduction by George R. Dennis.
