Shadow of Night is the second book in the All Souls trilogy, continuing the story of Diana and Matthew after the cliffhanger ending of A Discovery of Witches. The novel follows them as they travel through time to Elizabethan London, where they enter a world filled with spies, magic, and Matthew’s old friends, the School of Night. As they search for the mysterious manuscript Ashmole 782, Diana seeks a witch to teach her magic. Meanwhile, Matthew’s past begins to catch up with them, leading to a more dangerous adventure than before. The 2012 novel by Deborah Harkness expands the magical world and deepens the characters’ relationships.
