After six grueling months in London, Agatha Raisin returns to her favorite Cotswold village, Carsely, and to her neighbor James Lacey. James is not pleased to see her, but Agatha quickly becomes involved in a murder case. The victim, hiker Jessica Tartinck, was known for fighting with wealthy landowners over her walking club's right to use their land. She is found battered in a cornfield. Agatha convinces James to help her investigate, and she uncovers multiple suspects among Jessica’s fellow hikers and the landowners who were angry with her.
