About “Le Premier Pas”
"Le Premier Pas" is a short story by E. W. Hornung, featuring the gentleman thief A. J. Raffles and his companion and biographer, Bunny Manders. It was first published in 1899 as the fourth story in the collection The Amateur Cracksman, released by Methuen & Co. Ltd in London and Charles Scribner's Sons in New York. This story, along with "Wilful Murder," had not been published in magazine format before. The collection marked the debut of Raffles as a recurring character in Hornung's work.
