About “A Warning to the Curious”

"A Warning to the Curious" is a ghost story by M. R. James, first published in 1925 in the London Mercury and later included in his collection of the same name. The story follows Paxton, an antiquarian and archaeologist who discovers one of three lost crowns of East Anglia while on holiday in Seaburgh. The crowns are said to protect the country from invasion. After unearthing the crown, Paxton is pursued by its supernatural guardian. The story, written after the First World War, is considered one of James's most ominous works. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
